  • Lacrosse is a fast-paced team sport that combines elements of soccer, basketball, and hockey. It is played with a lacrosse stick (also called a crosse) and a small rubber ball. The objective is to score goals by shooting the ball into the opposing team’s net. Players use their sticks to pass, catch, cradle, and shoot the ball while running across the field.

    There are two main versions of youth lacrosse:

    • Boys' lacrosse, which is a contact sport and includes helmets and padding.

    • Girls' lacrosse, which is primarily non-contact and focuses more on stick skills and movement.

    Lacrosse is the fastest-growing youth sports in the U.S., offering a great mix of athleticism, teamwork, and fun! Another interesting fact is that lacrosse in the oldest team sport in North America; it originated with Indigenous peoples in the 12th century. 

  • Lamorinda Lacrosse is a non-profit recreational youth lacrosse program designed for boys and girls ages 6–14. We focus on teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse, promoting teamwork, and fostering a love for the game in a fun and supportive environment. Learn more

  • We offer teams for the following age divisions:

    • 8U (Ages 6-8, kindergarten through second grade)

    • 10U (Ages 9-10, 3rd and 4th grade)

    • 12U (Ages 11-12, 5th and 6th grade)

    • 14U (Ages 13-14, 7th and 8th grade)

  • Yes! We welcome players of all experience levels, including beginners with no prior playing experience. It’s never too late to start learning the game, even if your child is in 7th or 8th grade. Our coaches focus on teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse in a way that is fun and engaging.

  • Safety is our top priority. We follow USA Lacrosse safety guidelines, provide certified coaching, and ensure all players wear the required protective equipment. Coaches are trained in concussion protocols as well. Boys’ lacrosse includes controlled contact (similar to hockey though less intense), while girls’ lacrosse is primarily a non-contact sport.   • You can register online here. Registration for the main spring season typically opens in October for the following spring. Space is limited, so we encourage early sign-ups!

  • Our registration fees vary by age group but generally range from $450 to $600 per season. This fee covers coaching, field rentals, player jerseys, referees, league dues, insurance, equipment such as balls and goals, equipment storage, and other direct expenses. Lamorinda Lacrosse is a 501©(3) non-profit organization that is led by parent volunteers. We strive to keep costs as low as possible and don’t profit at all from registration fees. We want to make lacrosse accessible to as many as possible and offer scholarships for players who need financial assistance — if so, please contact us.

  • Players will need their own equipment (see below). We also require players to have a USA Lacrosse membership, which costs approximately $30 per year.

  • Yes! We believe cost should never be a barrier to playing. We offer scholarships and financial aid for families in need. Please contact us for more information.

    • Boys’ Lacrosse: Helmet, mouthguard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick, cleats, and a protective cup.

    • Girls’ Lacrosse: Goggles, mouthguard, stick, and cleats.

  • Local sporting goods stores like Sling It Lacrosse in Danville, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, carry required gear. Online stores such as Lacrosse Unlimited and Amazon are also an option. We are fans of StringKing sticks for both boys and girls.

  • Yes, we provide team jerseys as part of your registration fee. Players are responsible for their own shorts and socks.

  • Spring is our main season which runs from February to May. We also offer offseason clinics and training opportunities, such as fall ball and an annual summer camp.

  • Our home fields are Wilder Sports Fields in Orinda. Practice days and times vary by age group. 8U teams practice once per week for one hour, 10U teams practice twice per week for 1-1.5 hours each, and both 12U and 14U practice twice per week for 1.5 hours each.

  • Teams typically play roughly ten games per season, including home and away games against other local programs. We also participate in mid-season and/or end-of-season tournaments. Nearly all games are schedules on weekends, mostly Saturdays, but some Sundays as well. 8U and 10U games are mostly played within about a 25-minute drive. 12U and 14U games are mostly local, but can be up to an hour or so away.

  • Our coaches are a combination of experienced parent volunteers, many of whom have played or coached lacrosse up to NCAA Division I levels. We also have current high school and college players who serve as paid coaches. All coaches undergo background checks and USA Lacrosse coaching certification. We are fortunate to have exceptional and experienced coaches helping teach our children at each age group.

  • Yes! We rely on parent volunteers for coaching, team management, scorekeeping, and more. During registration, we also ask parents to select their preferred volunteer roles. If you're interested in helping further, please contact us.

  • Yes! We are a 501©(3) non-profit organization and can offer tax-receipts for any donations. Additionally, we are open to sponsorship opportunities from businesses. Please contact us if you’re interested.

  • If practices or games need to be canceled due to extreme weather, we will notify families via as soon as possible. We primarily use TeamSnap for team communications.

  • Absolutely! We encourage multi-sport participation, and our practice schedule is designed to accommodate players involved in other activities. We do ask that your child make it to as many practices and games as possible, but we understand that life is busy and conflicts happen.
