FAQ's (Frequently asked questions)
What is Fall Ball?
A series of consecutive Sunday clinics drills and scrimmages to introduce the new player (boys and girls) to Lacrosse and give experienced players scrimmage time and a chance to sharpen skills prior to evaluation days. Players will be separated based on experience and skill so that novice players will get the attention they need and experienced players will be able to scrimmage and learn new skills.
Is Fall Ball mandatory?
No, but it’s a great idea for both the new player and returning player!
Is Fall Ball appropriate for the returning player?
Yes, they continue to experience lacrosse, meet new coaches and play a variety of positions. This year Walnut Creek Warriors will be joining us.
When is Fall Ball?
2006 Fall Ball will be held Sunday afternoons from September 10th through November 12th. Times and field location will be posted on the website and reminder emails will be sent once our permits are finalized. Be sure to check the hotline if weather is questionable.
Does attending Fall Ball guarantee a spot for the 2007 Season:
Unfortunately no, due to a shortage of coaching staff. We will do the absolute best to accommodate everyone but have to restrict team size so that players have a chance to play. Waitlists will be established when a specific level is full. Children of coaches will always be guaranteed a spot.
Can my daughter or son attend Fall Ball but not play the season?
Yes, starting this year all players regardless of home club will be accepted for Fall Ball but you must register on line by September 7th. Our only requirement is that you are a current US Lacrosse member, that you have all the safety gear necessary.
Girls: we’ll have sticks and goggles available for purchase the first day.
What if my child hates Lacrosse after Fall Ball? Can I get a refund?
Yes. We refund your 2006 season registration minus a $40.00 administrative fee, which covers the US Lacrosse membership, and a small processing fee.
If my child "hates" Fall Ball will he/she "hate" Lacrosse?
Not necessarily. Fall Ball for the new player works on skills, which initially are difficult to master. Encourage your child to try it for a season. Generally as their skills improve so will their interest for the game.
My child is on the waitlist. What are the chances that my child will be able to play?
Hard to predict but we generally have a few drop outs each year. If we get additional coaches then we’ll be able to create more teams. We will offer a spot based on the date that you were added to the waitlist via telephone and email.
You will have 24 hours to make a decision & register before it is offered to someone else.
My child is on the waitlist and we are a returning family. Will we be given priority?
No, priority status ends on August 21st.
What is your refund policy?

What if my child's basketball, etc. overlaps?
We understand some athletes play other sports, so one or two-week overlap in seasons is okay. Make sure you attend as many of the practices you can and be sure to communicate this with the coach. If it’s a major commitment throughout the season then reconsider your choices. We will be keeping our teams deliberately small, so everyone can have the maximum playing time. Players missing games puts the team at a distinct disadvantage, which is unfair to teammates and the coach.
Be honest, realistic and consider all your commitments and let us know up front of any conflicts.
My child already belongs to US Lacrosse. Why do I have to sign up during registration?
We require a new membership each fall so that we can ensure that all our players are covered beyond our regular season as we could sponsor a Summer Ball program. We are a large club and can't assume the responsibility of a player falling through the cracks and not being covered during the off season.
How do I enroll with US Lacrosse?
The US Lacrosse membership fee is included in the registration fee and we will enroll the entire club once registration is complete.
My child's jersey still fits. Can we reuse?
Yes, all players are assigned a number when they join our club and will keep this number until they finish the 8th grade level. Replacement jerseys/shorts/kilts may be necessary as your child grows. If this is the case, you’ll need to purchase a new jersey/shorts/kilts on the specified day.
What can I do to help with a girl’s team?
We need parents willing to coach/assistant coach and will provide coaching clinics during Fall Ball. Contact Laurie Winslow with any questions.
How do we communicate within the club?
In an effort to reduce costs we are eliminating most paperwork you may have received in the past. We are rapidly moving to all computer-based information.
HOTLINE: 210-7333
The hotline will have the most current game/practice changes and rain cancellations. Please do not leave messages on the hot line, since it isn't checked. Once the season begins each team will be given a specific extension, which will be updated with specific team information.
WEBSITE:
The information contained on this website at www.lamorindalacrosse.com will probably answer most of your questions. Game schedule changes or cancellations will be posted on the site but not as promptly as the hotline.
TEAM PARENTS:
Each team will have team parents. They act as the liaison between you and the coach and are responsible for communication within the team. Team Parents will be notified once the teams are established in early January.
Each player will be provided with instructions on how to get a roster that includes other players’ phone numbers as well as ways to get a hold of your coach. It is important that if your player is ill or has conflicts that this information get to the coach in a timely manner.
I haven’t heard anything about my volunteer job.
Many of the jobs take place during the season and will be finalized at the preseason MANDATORY PARENT MEETING. Sign ups for “team related” jobs will take place at the parent meeting.
You will be notified preseason if you have a non-team related job and a lead parent would contact you about your assigned job before the job needs to be done.
Team parents will be notified once teams are formed and will meet as a group preseason with the parent reps. Job responsibilities will be explained and you'll have the opportunity to meet other experienced team parents.
When does the season start?
Tentatively practices will start in early February and games the beginning of March however at this time exact dates are unknown.
When and how will teams be formed? Who will contact me?
Please refer to "current information" for detailed description. You should be contacted by your coach once team assignments have been made.
I made a request that my child be on a specific team. Will it be honored?
We will do our best to honor all requests especially at the younger level, but we create teams based on skill level. As we move toward grade level "A" and "B" teams this may not be possible. Your child's team placement will be based on ability and availability.
How do I know who is playing so that carpooling arrangements can be made?
Each team member will be provided with a team roster. Carpooling should be arranged with team members only, as practice times and locations are an unknown until the immediate preseason.
Where and when are the practices and games going to be held?
We are still negotiating fields for the 2007 season but are hoping the girls will be at Burton Valley, the younger boys at Rheem and the 7-8 grade boys at OIS. Practices for the 2006 season were held from 3:30 – 5:00 pm twice weekly for pups and girls, three times for juniors and once weekly for peewees. The majority of the games will be held within 20 minutes of home. Occasionally longer travel will be required.
Who do we play?
While we try to schedule the majority of our games close to home we sometimes must travel. The following clubs were played during the 2004 season: Southern Marin, Ross Valley, Skyline (Oakland), Berkeley, Town/Palega (San Francisco), Pleasanton, Diablo Scorpions (San Ramon), Walnut Creek, Tomahawks (Palo Alto), Coyotes (Burlingame), Bret Harte (San Jose), Novato, Pebble Beach (Carmel Valley).
How often do we travel?
This is unknown until the final schedule is given to us by the NCJLA. This information will most likely be released a week or 2 before the season starts.
My child gets out of school at 3:30 and can’t make practice on time. Is this a problem?
No, lots of kids may have the same problem and coaches are aware of this. Get there as soon as possible.
Will there be directions to away games on the website?
Yes. Away game directions are submitted by each team to NCJLA at the beginning of each season.
When will we find out our games schedule?
Practice schedules should be available at the parent meeting and Game schedules a couple of weeks before the season starts.
What will be posted on the website?
Practice and game schedules, field directions, camps/clinics, links to local games, organizations, current events for the club, Newsflashes, lost and found, registration information, etc. will be posted.
Who do I contact if I have a roster correction?
Email your change to the Club Administrator. It’s important to keep the club updated with the most current email address and correct insurance information for your child.
Who do I contact if I want to help or have a suggestion?
You can email our Club Administrator who will then pass on any information to the appropriate person or people.
